N.R. Mohalla Sangeetha Sabha Music Fest in city from Feb.15

Mysuru: N.R. Mohalla Sangeetha Sabha Charitable Trust has organised the following music concerts as part of the Annual Music Festival of Saint Thyagaraja & Purandaradasa Aradhana at Sri Prasanna Mahaganapathi Temple on Shivaji Road in N.R. Mohalla here from Feb.15 to 17:

Feb.15 (6.30 pm): Grand music recital by Vidu. Archana and Vidu. Aarthi (Chennai). They will be accompanied by Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy (Violin), Vid. G.S. Ramanujan (Mridanga) and Vid. S. Manjunath (ghata).

Feb.16 (6.30 pm): Grand vocal concert by Vidu. Vani Satish (Bengaluru). Vid. R. Achyutha Rao (Violin), Vid. H.L. Shivashankara Swamy (Mridanga) and Vid. Sharath Koushik (Ghata).

Feb.17 – 9 am: Nadaswaram recital and rendering of Saint Thyagaraja & Purandaradasa Krithis; 11.20 am: Honouring artistes — Vid. T.P. Vidhynathan, Vid. R.K. Padmanabha and Vid. Tandavamurthy; 12.15 pm: Pancharathna Krithis of Saint Thyagaraja in chorus; 1.15 pm: Mahamangalarathi.

Artistes’ Profile

Vidu. Archana and Vidu. Aarthi were born as twin sisters to Bharathi and Laxminarayanan and hail from a family of great musicians like Vid. late Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavatar and Supreme Court Justice late Venkatrama lyer. They gave their first performance at the age of seven. They are at present under the tutelage of Sangeetha Kalanidhi R. Vedavalli, a renowned musician from Chennai. They have also pursued music from Vidwans P.S. Narayanaswamy, Suguna Varadhachary and S. Sowmya.

They both have done their BE in Electronics and Instrumentation from Anna University, Chennai, where Archana secured  a Gold Medal.

Both Archana and Aarthi have performed in more than 100 Sabhas in Chennai, Madurai and Trichy in reputed Sabhas and organisations.

They have also performed in Cleveland Aradhana, Toronto & Ottawa in Canada.

They have been conferred with the title ‘Padma Bharathi’ by Padma Sarangapani Cultural Academy of Chennai in 2007.

Vidu. Vani Sathish is an old student of Fine Arts College, University of Mysore (UoM), with a Masters degree securing a few gold medals. She is a National award winner. She had her initial training with her uncle Bellary M. Sheshagiri Achar. Subsequently, under her father Sangeetha Kalaratna Bellary M. Venkatesh Achar and later under her brother Raghavaendra.

Vani started performing at a tender age of 10 and has been performing all over India and the US. Vani lived in the US for nearly 15 years, during which period, she had the privilege of grooming 100s of students.

Vani promoted an organisation under the Banner ‘Vishesha,’ through which our Karnatak music was promoted in many parts of the USA.
