On behalf of the Birth Centenary of Violin Maestro Vid. P. Shamanna, a Nadaranjani music programme has been organised at Bidaram Krishnappa Rama Mandira in city tomorrow at 5.30 pm.

Shamanna was born in a musical family in 1917 to Violin Maestro Vid. S. Ramaswami and Lakshmamma. He learnt violin from his father and accompanied many popular and prominent musicians. He used to play 7 stringed violin.

A B-High Grade artiste in Akashavani and Band Master in Palace Karnataka Band, he was the first music director for Mahatma Pictures in Sandalwood. Prominent music directors Rajan-Nagendra and Gunasingh were Shamanna’s students. Under the music direction of Shamanna, many musicians such as Mysore Ananthaswami, Mumbai Amir Bai Karnataki and P.B. Srinivas have rendered many songs.

Shamanna always used to accompany P. Kalinga Rao on Violin and he has done enormous service to Gubbi Veeranna company. He was a music director for Venus Circus documentary film. Music Maestro Naushad awarded him the title ‘Music Wizard.’ Among his 7 children, he trained his daughter Rajalakshmi on Veena.

As Shamanna dedicated his whole life to music, a vocal concert in his memory will be held on Dec.15. One of the most popular violinists Vid. H.K. Narasimha Murthy and Mysore Akashavani A-top grade Mridanga artiste Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar will be felicitated. Kala Sevaratna K.V. Murthy and Akashavani, Mysuru Assistant Director H. Srinivas will be the chief guests.

At 6 pm, there will be a vocal concert by Vid. Vinay Sharva accompanied by Vid. K.T Uday Kiran on Violin, Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar on Mridanga and Vid.Sharath Kaushik on Ghata.  All music-lovers are welcome, according to a press release from the organisers.
