Mysore/Mysuru: Twelve persons were conferred with ‘Nalwadi Award’ for their achievements in their chosen field at a function organised by Mysuru Kannada Vedike to commemorate the birthday of Rajarshi Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar at Namana Kalamantapa in Krishnamurthypuram here on Tuesday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gangdharaswamy, who spoke after conferring the awards, commended the organisers for identifying the achievers and felicitating them for their achievements which increases their responsibility. Every one must contribute to the welfare of Mysuru city, he said.
Dr. Rekha Arun, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, who spoke on behalf of the awardees recalled the services of Sri Nalwadi and said his contributions in the fields of Education, Health, Irrigation and Industries are responsible for the systematic development of Mysuru city. Nalwadi established Maharaja College to provide education for all, set up K.R. and other Hospitals to provide healthcare and built KRS Dam to provide water of agriculture. The contributions of the erstwhile rulers to the State is enormous. “For this reason, I am very pleased to receive the award given in memory of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar,” added Dr. Rekha Arun.
Mysuru Kannada Vedike President S. Balakrishna said that the Vedike is meaningfully celebrating Nalwadi Jayanti every year by recognising services of unsung heroes in various fields and felicitating them with Nalwadi Award.
The awardees: Anantha Padmanabha (Teacher), Dr. Rekha Arun (Doctor), R. Anand (Singer), Adil Pasha (Writer), Dr. Sougandhika A. Jois (Writer), Gowri Ostaval (Bharatanatyam Dancer), Dr. Rekha Manashanti (Psychologist), Arunrao (Advocate), Gururaja (Singer), Ganesh (Photo-Journalist), B.R. Vijayasri (Singer) and Ramesh Balappa (Education). Social Worker Dr. Srisha Bhat, Naalabeedi Ravi and others were present.
