Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar remembered in city

June 3, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: With stringent lockdown in force, Karnataka Sena Pade, taking advantage of the lockdown relaxation on Mondays and Thursdays, when provisions shops, grocery shops and other essential shops are allowed to open from 6 am to 12 noon, celebrated Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayanti in the city this morning, a day in advance (official Jayanti is on June 4). However, the celebrations, held at K.R. Circle in the heart of the city, was simple and was held by following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, DCP Dr. A.M. Prakash Gowda said that the contribution of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar to the State was enormous.

Recalling that the erstwhile Mysuru Maharaja established many educational institutions of repute in the city, including University of Mysore (UoM), Hospitals and executed many other outstanding projects, he said that Krishnaraja Wadiyar is the ideal model for generations to come.

Marking the occasion, floral tributes were offered to the statue and a portrait of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar at K.R. Circle.

Karnataka Sena Pade President Tejesh Lokesh Gowda, social worker Raghuram Vajpayee and others were present.

Police will act according to Government guidelines if lockdown extended

Replying to a question on whether additional measures will be taken if the current stringent lockdown is extended beyond June 7, DCP Prakash Gowda said that today, when only permitted shops  are allowed to open from 6 am to 12 noon, the Police have taken all necessary measures to ensure that crowding does not take place at any point and that the citizens adhere to COVID -19 appropriate behaviour.

Maintaining that the Police are working round-the-clock to ensure strict compliance of the stringent lockdown, according to which all shops, barring essentials, are shut for five days a week and allowed to open only on Mondays and Thursdays for a limited period, he appealed the citizens to avoid using vehicles and to do shopping only in their neighbourhood shops, in the interests of their own                                               health and safety.

The Police Dept. will act as per  the fresh set of guidelines that may probably be issued by the Government if the lockdown is extended beyond June 7, he added.
