Dr. D. Thimmaiah inaugurates centenary celebrations of MMC&RI

Mysore/Mysuru: It is our good luck that we got Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar as our ruler who had given progressive contributions for the prosperity of Mysuru due to his far-sightedness, said MLC Dr. D. Thimmaiah.

Speaking after inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) at the Platinum Jubilee Hall of Mysore Medical College at J.K. Grounds in city yesterday, Dr. Thimmaiah said that the contributions of Nalwadi to the medical sector was immense and remembered senior doctors and Professors, who had served in Mysore Medical College.

Pointing out that only those who are suffering from health issues come to doctors, the MLC said that everyone should get the treatment equally and it is very important to serve the poor and the needy besides stating that medical services in Government hospitals should be on par with private hospitals.

“Usually we have seen those taking Government salaries and serving. But I have seen doctors receiving only honorarium and serving in K.R. Hospital such as Dr. C.D. Sreenivasa Murthy and Dr. B.V. Rajagopal. Also, Dr. Kaulgud, a Gynaecologist at Cheluvamba Hospital, when found out that women had less blood, used to donate blood himself and then conduct surgeries,”                                             Dr. Thimmaiah said.

Kudligi MLA Dr. N.T. Srinivas said that he is proud to say that he is a MMC MLA rather that calling himself as the MLA of Kudligi and added that it was Mysore Medical College (MMC) which corrected him which helped him to serve the people.

MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. K.R. Dakshayani, who too spoke, said that MMC&RI, which is celebrating its centenary, will be expanded in the coming days.

A proposal has been sent to the Government for a separate Out Patient Department (OPD), establishment of a dialysis centre and other necessary developments, she said and added that the Government has responded positively to the proposal besides urging for the co-operation of elected representatives.

A souvenir on the centenary celebrations was released on the occasion.
