Mysore/Mysuru: State BJP OBC Morcha President Raghu R. Kautilya has urged the Government to name the film city (Chitranagari) coming up near Mysuru, after late Director Puttanna Kanagal and also to convert Puttanna Kanagal’s ancestral house at Periyapatna as a museum.
He was speaking at ‘Puttanna Nenapinangala’ event organised by Karunamayi Vishnu Abhimani Balaga, marking the birth anniversary of S.R. Puttanna Kanagal, at Tagadur Ramachandrarao Park near Chamundipuram Circle here on Monday.
Pointing out that Puttanna Kanagal, a native of Periyapatna in Mysuru, had made in his own mark in making social and family oriented cinemas, which have sent out a message to the society on domestic matters, Raghu said that most of his cinemas attracted a good number of viewers.
“The role of Onake Obavva in the popular Puttanna Kanagal’s hit film ‘Nagara Haavu’ made in the 1970s, still continues to enhance the patriotic fervour in the younger generation of today. ‘Chamayya Meshtru’ and ‘Ramachari’ characters in the film highlights the relationship between Guru-Shishya,” Raghu said adding that most of Puttanna’s films stoke up emotional feelings and thoughts in the minds of the public. He further said that great actors like Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Ambarish and Srinath hogged the limelight in Kannada cinema because of Puttanna, who honed and fine tuned their acting skills. Social worker Raghuram Vajpayee too spoke.
Floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Puttanna Kanagal on the occasion.
