The battle lines for Nanjangud and Gundlupet Assembly byelections have been drawn with the Election Commission of India (ECI) notifying the much-awaited poll schedule for the two Assembly segments this afternoon.
According to the schedule, polling for the two Assembly seats will be held on Apr. 9.
The filing of nominations will begin on Mar. 14 and end on Mar. 21. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on Mar. 22 and the deadline for withdrawal of papers is Mar. 24. The counting of votes polled will be taken up on Apr. 13 and the results are expected to be announced by afternoon.
The Nanjangud bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of senior Dalit leader V. Sreenivasa Prasad, who quit his Assembly seat in October last year after being unceremoniously dropped from the Siddharamaiah Cabinet. Later, Prasad also quit the Congress to join BJP.
Nanjangud Assembly segment is reserved for SC category.
The Gundlupet bypoll was necessitated following the demise of Co-operation and Sugar Minister H.S. Mahadevaprasad on Jan. 3, 2017.
