Narayana Multispeciality Hospital conducts workshop on Spiral Enteroscopy

March 3, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Gastroenterology, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Mysuru, conducted a Medical Education workshop on “Spiral Enteroscopy” headed by Dr. A.K. Satheesh Rao, Chief Gastroenterologist, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital here recently.

More than 50  delegates from all over India participated in the workshop which focused on the latest in the endoscopic evaluation of small bowel.

What is Spiral Enteroscopy?

A minimally invasive technique, Spiral Enteroscopy allows physicians to enter into areas in the bowel and intestine that are difficult to access through conventional endoscopy methods. It helps in better diagnosis of small intestinal lesions. It is helpful in the diagnosis of anaemia of unknown causes and abdominal pain evaluation. It is also useful in treating strictures of small bowel and removal of polyps without surgery. It can also identify bleeding arising from small bowel and can be treated without surgery.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Satheesh Rao said, “Spiral Enteroscopy is a novel technique — a rotating spiral placed over the endoscope which can go deep into the small bowel. Small bowel has been difficult to access due to convolutions, long length, and depth. Spiral Enteroscopy has revolutionised the examination of small bowel and procedures like polyp removal, release and stenting of strictures, diagnosis and treat bowel bleeds and biopsies.”

“Narayana Hospital has pioneered the technology and is also at the forefront of training clinicians. With this objective, the hospital has arranged talks and discussions and also an enteroscopy workshop to demonstrate procedures and skills to clinicians,” he added.
