Mysore/Mysuru: The Royal Mysore Sailing Club (RMSC) is organising the National Junior Ranking Sailing championships in the backwaters of Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam from July 29 to Aug. 4.
The championship winners can subsequently qualify for Asian Games, European Games and even the Olympics. This is the fourth such championship being held at the KRS backwaters in 2021 and 2022 and the RMSC has tied up with the Yachting Association of India (YAI) to organise the mega event.
The seven-day event is spread out to include various categories and the first day, July 29 will be reserved for registration and the inaugural ceremony. On July 30, information will be disseminated on the championship and the rules will be outlined. The championship per se will be conducted from July 31 to Aug. 3. The grand finale will be on Aug. 4, followed by prize distribution and the closing ceremony.
Over 160 sailing champions from all over India are expected to participate in the event which will enable them to reach greater heights in the sport. The championships will be held in the ‘ILCA 4.7’, ‘RS-1’, Optimist and ‘Optimist Green Fleet’ categories and participants are required to register their names by July 21 for the event.
It is the National Junior Ranking Sailing championship and participants — both boys and girls — must be in the age group of 16 and 20 years. The winners will be declared ‘YAI Youth Champions’ and they can next make a mark in Asian Games, European Games and even the Olympics.
New office inauguration
The new office of the RMSC was inaugurated in the city last evening on the D. Devaraj Urs Road. High Court Judge Justice R. Devdas and industrialist R. Guru. Former MLC G. Madhusudhan, RMSC Founder Captain Arvind Sharma, President Ajay Kumar Singh, Vice-President Mahindra Patwari, RMSC member & promoter, Siddharta Hotel & Windflower Resorts P.V. Giri. and others were present.
