National Lok Adalat begins

September 14, 2024

Mysuru: The Third National Lok Adalat of 2024 began this morning in city Courts and across the district under the auspices of the National Legal Services Authority, Karnataka Legal Services Authority and Mysuru District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

This nationwide event is simultaneously taking place in all States and Union Territories to expedite dispute resolution and improve access to justice.

The Lok Adalat provides a platform to settle both pre-litigation and pending cases, including compoundable offences, plea bargaining, revenue disputes, bank recovery cases, motor accident claims, cheque bounce issues, labour disputes, matrimonial and domestic cases, land acquisition matters, intellectual property, consumer complaints, and other civil cases.

In the Mysuru district, the Lok Adalat is being held across 66 Courts, with 44 located in the city. Current statistics reveal a backlog of 1,17,013 cases in the City and Taluk Courts, of which 58,030 are civil cases and 58,983 are criminal cases. The DLSA has identified more than 30,000 cases that can be resolved through mediation, counselling and mutual agreement.

As a statutory alternative dispute resolution mechanism, the Lok Adalat provides an expeditious, cost-effective solution to settling disputes. Its awards are final and binding on all parties involved.
