Naval Veterans Association to celebrate Navy Day on Sunday

December 7, 2024

Navy Day is celebrated on Dec. 4 every year to recognise the achievements of the Indian Navy and its role in the country. Dec. 4 was chosen as on that day in 1971, during Operation Trident, the Indian Navy sank four Pakistani vessels including PNS Khaibar, defeating the Pakistani Navy. On this day, those killed in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 are also remembered. This celebration will be witnessed by 1971 war Veterans who contributed during the war, Naval Veterans with their families and other dignitaries.

On this occasion, the Association will honour Naval War veterans A.K Shivan from Ujjire, aged 78 years who was participated 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. He was the commissioning crew of submarine INS Karanj (S23) which was the First submarine that participated in 1971 Indo-Pak war and patrolling near Karachi Harbour for continuous 23 days and ensured no external logistic support to the Harbour.  For details, contact Naval Veterans Association President Gajanan T.
