Nayaka community demands reservation of Mayor post for ST community

November 11, 2019

Mysuru:  With the Government yet to announce the reservation roster for the Mayoral polls, the Nayaka community has demanded that the Mayor post be reserved for ST community.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, Rajya Nayaka Hitarakshana Vedike President Dyavappa Nayaka said that although the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) was formed over 35 years ago, the city is yet to have a Mayor from ST community. In this backdrop, the Government should reserve the post for ST community in order to maintain social justice, he said.

Maintaining that Nayaka community has a strong presence in Mysuru district, he alleged that the community was being neglected politically. He urged the Government to fulfil the aspirations of the Constitution by reserving the Mayor post to ST community and thus rendering justice to the community.

Vedike office-bearers Prabhakar, Venkatesh Nayak, Govind Nayak and Channa Nayak were present at the press meet.
