Sir,
Highway Circle aka Abul Kalam Azad Circle in Bannimantap is one of the heritage structures of our city. It is a busy junction of five very busy roads, and is frequently prone to traffic jams and fatal accidents as well.
One could witness huge rush during office hours, festive season and recently all the time. Also all private buses use this Circle to reach city from all surrounding towns.
Surprisingly, there is no traffic signal nor any Police personnel manning this Circle. One could argue that another traffic signal is not required here as we already have signals at Bamboo Bazaar and RMC Circle. But still we can witness all types of vehicles coming at great speeds especially from Bamboo Bazaar side and Nelson Mandela Road side. This inconveniences the motorists travelling from/to Jawa factory side, Jodi Tenginamara side, SOM Office and Puthli Park side. On top of this the Circle itself is huge (although it adds beauty to the place with the elephant statue fountain) and one needs to circumvent the curve.
Hereby I suggest the Traffic Police and authorities concerned to either install traffic signal or install speed-breakers on all sides of the Circle so that all vehicles reduce their speed while travelling through this Circle, thus avoiding accidents and saving precious lives.
