New Crafts’ Silk India-2025 expo-cum-sale begins

Mysuru:  New Crafts’ Silk India-2025, an opulent show of cool cotton handloom products, ethnic and traditional silk, made by master weavers from all over India, was inaugurated by actress Sarika Rao at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry  on Vinoba Road in city this afternoon. The expo-cum-sale is open to public between 10.30 am and 8.30 pm till Feb. 3.

It brings together rural weavers from across India, showcasing an extensive collection of handlooms, dress materials, and sarees, including renowned West Bengal cotton sarees.

The exhibition presents a diverse and extensive collection of handloom and handcrafted items, highlighting the following categories: Jewellery: Silver, Kundan, and Meenakari Textiles: Bandhani, Bandhej, and handmade paper Precious and Semi-Precious Stones: Gemstones Handcrafted Items: Wood, ivory, lac, glass, brass, silver and gold; Leather Crafts Other Highlights: Handmade jewellery, carpets, durries, Mojaris/Jutis, marble crafts and more.

The exhibition celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Gujarat with its colourful textiles, such as Bandhani and Bandhej, which are renowned for their intricate designs and vibrant hues. It also features a vibrant array of handloom products, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of rural weavers from across India.

A standout feature of the exhibition is the fusion of traditional handloom techniques with contemporary lifestyle designs. Jute-muslin sarees, with their delicate stripes and pallus adorned with bold jute and gold kairis, make a classic statement. Saha’s collection adds variety with the inclusion of affordable yet elegant Tangail sarees.
