Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. P. Deepa has been appointed as the new Director of Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSRTI) in the city.
Dr. Deepa had served in various capacities at the National Silkworm Seed Organisation (NSSO) for the past 35 years.
“The priority is to develop field-based research projects and execute them to bring transformation in the production of mulberry and silkworm, when the country is currently aiming to reach the target of raw silk production, from the present 41,121 metric tonnes to 50,000 metric tonnes,” said Dr. Deepa.
The other priority areas include: Development of sub-products through mulberry and silk cocoon production and development of affordable, environment friendly and user friendly technologies, with value addition to the stakeholders, she added.
