Newly-wed couple attempts suicide: Bride dies, groom hospitalised

Hunsur:  In a tragic incident, a newly-wedded couple, attempted suicide by hanging themselves to a tree near a Petrol Bunk at Tondalu village in the taluk this morning.

While the bride breathed her last in the incident, the groom has been admitted to a hospital by the villagers.

While the deceased has been identified as Jamuna (28), daughter of Muthu Shetty, a resident of Kuvempu Layout in K.R. Nagar, the groom, who was rescued by the villagers and admitted to Hunsur General Hospital, has been identified as 25-year-old Dilip, son of Srinivas and a resident of Tondalu Village in the taluk.

Dilip and Jamuna reportedly got married at a temple in Tondalu village yesterday and both went to Dilip’s house, where the parents of Dilip opposed their marriage and allegedly scolded them.

Depressed over this, Dilip and Jamuna, who came near the Petrol Bunk in the village this morning, reportedly hanged themselves to a tree nearby.

While Jamuna died due to hanging, Dilip, who was found struggling, was rescued and rushed to Hunsur General Hospital by the villagers.

Hunsur Town Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, brought down the body of Jamuna and shifted the body to Hunsur General Hospital for post-mortem.

Town Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
