No new first grade colleges in the State: Minister

September 18, 2022

Bengaluru: Higher Education Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwathnarayan has said that the Government will not open any new first grade colleges in the State.

The Minister made this announcement in the State Assembly while replying to a question raised by K.Y. Nanjegowda during Question Hour.

“There are 440 Government first grade colleges in the State now and priority will be given to the development and improvement of these colleges. In about 75 percent of these colleges, the student strength is less than 1,500 and in some other colleges there are lack of facilities. Only 150 colleges have been given accreditation. Hence, priority will be on providing basic infrastructure and enhancement of quality,” said Dr. Ashwathnarayan.
