No Tobacco Day: Street play held at K.R. Hospital premises

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of World No Tobacco Day, a street play was held under the joint aegis of Health and Family Welfare Department, District Surveillance Unit and District Tobacco Control Cell, at K.R. Hospital premises here this morning, in order to create public awareness on the dangers of tobacco consumption.

Speaking on the occasion, District Surveillance Officer Dr. Shivaprasad explained the public on the dangers of using tobacco, what the Government is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes.

Pointing out that No Tobacco Day or Anti-Tobacco Day  observed  every year on May 31 is meant to raise awareness about the adverse effects of smoking, he said that it also aims to sensitise people about the hazardous  diseases that can be caused due to smoking such as Cancer, Diabetes, Respiratory disorders etc. This year, the theme of the Day is ‘Commit to Quit’ and several awareness programmes are being held across the State throughout the year, he added.

The street play was enacted by members of Rangajagali Samskrutika Trust  in Dattagalli.

DHO Dr. K. H. Prasad, K.R. Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. B. L. Nanjundaswamy, RMO Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Blood Bank Officer Dr. Manjunath, Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) President S.T. Ravikumar and others were present.
