Nomad couple gets BPL card:Doctors perform angioplasty on Hindar Raj

May 24, 2017

Mysuru: The nomad couple from Pakshirajapura in Hunsur, who were denied free treatment at Jayadeva Hospital here as their BPL card was suspended because it was not linked to Aadhaar card, finally availed free treatment at the hospital and the man underwent successful angioplasty surgery yesterday.

The nomad couple is identified as 55-year-old Mallika and her husband 59-year-old Hindar Raj.

The surgery was performed by Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Sadananda of Jayadeva Hospital.

It may be recalled that Hindar Raj, who suffered severe chest pain, was rushed to Hunsur Government Hospital by his wife Mallika and the doctors there referred Hindar Raj to Jayadeva Hospital in Mysuru.

Upon reaching the hospital, Mallika registered Hindar Raj’s name and got him admitted in the hospital. To avail treatment, Mallika then produced their BPL card as the hospital provides free treatment to BPL card holders.

But to her shock, the hospital staff told her that the card was suspended and they could not avail free treatment, following which, she rushed to the office of Senior Deputy Director of the Food and Civil Supplies Department Dr. K. Rameshwarappa and narrated her problem.

Dr. Rameshwarappa, then made arrangements to get the fingerprint of Hindar Raj who was admitted in the hospital and the next day evening, Mallika was given a new BPL card, following which Hindar Raj was able to avail free treatment and the surgery was performed on him.

Dr. Sadananda, speaking to SOM, said that Hindar Raj underwent successful Angioplasty surgery and was on the road to recovery. He said that Hindar Raj would be discharged after he completely recovers.
