Drive will begin in all five Traffic Police Station limits this week
Mysuru: In a first of its kind in the State, Mysuru City Traffic Police have made all preparations to launch Wheel Locking System of the two-wheelers that are parked in ‘No Parking’ zones across the city.
Speaking to Star of Mysore yesterday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) – Traffic G.N. Mohan said that the City Traffic Police have been receiving a lot of complaints related to parking of two-wheelers in ‘No Parking’ zones by vehicle owners in all the five Traffic Police Station limits in city after the Police suspended ‘Tiger’ vehicles used for towing operations in city.
It may be recalled, the City Police stopped this operation last month following public outrage and complaints of misuse.
On instructions from City Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) – Crime and Traffic M. Muthuraj, the Traffic Police have decided to introduce Wheel Locking System this week and have already purchased about 500 two-wheeler locks and will distribute 100 locks each to Narasimharaja, Krishanaraja, V.V. Puram, Devaraja and Siddarthanagar Traffic Police Stations.
The Traffic Cops will launch the Wheel Locking System in the next three days and will lock the two-wheelers parked in ‘No Parking’ zones and will affix the notice on the violator’s vehicle about penalty, time, phone number and other details.
They will leave the vehicle on-the-spot after locking it till evening on the same day and if the vehicle owner does not turn up and pay the penalty, the Traffic Cops will then bring the locked two-wheeler to their Police Station.
When the owner turns up at the Police Station, he has to pay the violation fee of Rs.100 along with lifting charges and then get his two-wheeler released, ACP Mohan said.
Efforts are on to procure more such cost-effective and strong wheel locks and provide it to all Traffic Police Stations in the city. The drive will begin in all the areas that witness large-scale parking rule violations, the ACP added.
