NRI teenager to enthrall Hindusthani connoisseurs

Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha has organised a Hindusthani Classical Vocal by an American teenager Tharini Nagarkar on July 15 (Sunday) at 6 pm at the Sabha premises. She will be accompanied by Pt. Bhimashankar Bidanoor on tabla and Pt.Veerabhadrayya Hiremath on harmonium. The programme is being sponsored by art patron K.V.Murthy.

Tharini Nagarkar, a 16 year-old high school student from California, USA, started learning music at the tender age of 4 and had been under the tutelage of Pt. Nagaraj Rao Havaldar (during her visits to India) and Dr. Sumita Chakraborty in California from 2005 through 2010.

Upon moving to India in late 2010, Tharini came under the tutelage of Vidushi Amrutha Deshpande, the senior-most disciple of renowned Hindustani vocalist, Pt. Vinayak Torviand received additional guidance from Panditji himself. Since moving back to California in 2016, she continues to train under Vidushi Amrutha Deshpande and Pt. Vinayak Torvi-ji over Skype and in-person during her summer visits to India. Upon her Guruji’s suggestion, she has also started to teach classical music to young kids in the Bay Area.

Tharini is training in Kirana and Gwalior Gharanas. She has given several performances in India at various temples, music festivals, baithaks.
