Nurse Brinda bats for better salary for all Corona Warriors

June 28, 2021

Money is also important in life. It is very difficult to run a family with the present salary. I request the Government to recognise our service and hike the salary.

Mysore/Mysuru: “We are risking our lives to treat Corona positive patients, which we don’t regret. But the State Government is not paying the salary on par with the Government employees”, bemoaned Brinda, a nurse who is working on contract basis at Hunsur General Hospital.

She has been working as a nurse at Hunsur Hospital on contract for the last 12 years and as Corona Warrior since last one year. “ There is disparity in salary but we are treated with utmost respect on par with staff nurses. Initially, I was scared to work among the COVID patients but later adjusted to it with the safety measures. We are also like soldiers fighting against invisible enemy. More than treatment, instilling confidence among patients is very important. Most of them get scared once they test positive for Coronavirus.  Patients recover fast if we interact with them in Wards. They bless us while returning home and say ‘hello’ when meet outside. What more satisfaction you want? ” Brinda asked.

It is not that you cannot drink water once you wear PPE kit. You take it off and drink. But it was not removed keeping in view the safety of children and parents at home. No matter whatever may be the difficulty, PPE kit is removed only after the day’s work to have food and water. Officers are very co-operative and they treat us as real warriors, she noted.
