Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that the Nursing profession demands compassion and human values, former Holenarasipur Government Nursing College Principal Dr. K.P. Dakshayini said that Nurses must always remember that they are working with humans and not machines.

She was addressing students at the oath taking ceremony of first year B.Sc (Nursing) students of Government Nursing College (of MMC&RI) at Platinum Jubilee Hall in J.K. Grounds here recently.

Observing that Nursing students should not feel that their responsibility ends with completion of their studies, Dr. Dakshayini opined that the real challenge in their life comes only when they enter the profession. Stressing on the need for having commitment and determination to the profession, she said that the smiling face of Nurses and their professional touch and care helps patients in faster recovery.

Pointing out that there are ample opportunities for qualified Nurses, both domestic and abroad, she said that graduating students should grab whatever opportunities that come in their way.

Asserting that there is a growing demand for Nursing courses, she said that the Union Government has created a new post called Community Health Officers with Nursing professionals in mind. Bigger opportunities beckons those who excel in the profession, she added.

Nursing College Principal A.B. Pushpalatha said that the college, apart from providing quality education, is also giving importance to discipline. Asserting that professional ethics can be upheld only by following the undertaken oath, she said that Nursing students, apart from shaping their life, have also the responsibility of saving the life of others.

Cheluvamba Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rajendrakumar, in his address, said that it is important to remember the sacrifice and achievements of Nursing Icon Florence Nightingale. He called upon the students to aim high in life and work towards achieving their set goal.
