Mysuru: A youth sustained injuries after he was attacked by a group with machetes over old rivalry during Ganeshotsava and Kuvempunagar Police have arrested five persons in this connection.

The youth who was attacked is 30-year-old Madhu, a resident of Devayyanahundi and the accused who have been arrested by the Police are Darshan, Jayanth, Srinivas, Yogesh and Naveen.

On Sunday night, wordy duel ensued between two groups over an old issue at Devayyanahundi and a fight took place. Local residents, who intervened, diffused the situation and sent the two groups away. But yesterday morning, a fight broke out again between the two groups and Madhu was struck on his back with a machete. Madhu was immediately rushed to a hospital.

Kuvempunagar Police, who reached the spot, conducted an inspection, registered a case and arrested five persons who had allegedly attacked and  injured Madhu.
