Nanjangud: Consuming liquor along roadside at  a secluded spot proved fatal for a youth, who was killed when two unidentified miscreants reportedly attacked him with lethal weapons near Kalkunda village in the taluk late on Thursday night.

The murdered youth has been identified as Manoj (20) of Tagadur in the taluk. The miscreants, after killing him, threw his body into a nearby canal, it is learnt.

Manoj, along with his friend Vijaykumar, 20, after buying liquor from a shop at Sonahalli, was having drinks along the road near Kalkunda late on Thursday night.

As they were partying, two unidentified youths are said to have arrived at the spot and began conversing with them. After sharing their mobile phone numbers, the two unidentified youths suddenly picked up a quarrel over some issue, following which the youths attacked Manoj and Vijaykumar with lethal weapons.

While Vijaykumar, who also reportedly sustained injuries in the assault managed to flee, Manoj was brutally hacked to death.

Vijaykumar, after somehow reaching  Kalkunda, informed the villagers about the incident, following which a search was launched for the missing Manoj throughout the night, which proved futile.

However, Manoj’s body was found floating in Kabini Right Bank canal near Kalkunda on Friday morning.
