One more cow becomes tiger’s victim

June 24, 2018

Virajpet: A tiger, which is on a prowl and cattle killing spree in South Kodagu district, killed one more cow in a coffee estate near Maldare in Virajpet taluk on Friday night. The tiger has killed more than 35 cattle in three months and the tiger killing the cow was captured by the CCTV cameras installed by the Forest Department. The cow that was killed by the tiger belonged to one Pradeep who earns his living from selling cow milk.

Earlier, the same tiger had killed two more cows in the last three days near Birugu village in Virajpet taluk. The cows belonged to Viju Cariappa.

JD(S) District President Sanket Poovaiah visited the spot and urged the Forest Department to immediately catch the tiger.

He alleged that it is due to the negligence of the Forest officials that the wild animals are straying into human habitat. Even the efforts of the forest officials to capture the feline by placing a cage have not worked so far. If they fail to trap the tiger, then an agitation will be launched, he has warned.
