Online fraud: Elder citizens conned of Rs. 3.11 lakh

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, two elderly men have lost a total sum of Rs. 3,11,554 to online fraudsters.

In the first case, 67-year-old B.A. Tata, a resident of Siddarthanagar, has lost Rs. 86,555 after giving his credit card details.

Tata, who had shopped a product online, had returned the product as the quality of it was not up to the mark.

As the amount he had paid was not deposited to his bank account, he called the Customer Care number and the person who received his call, collected his credit card details and in a few minutes Rs. 86,555 was siphoned off from his credit card.

In the second case, 69-year-old S.C. Mahadev, a resident of Dattagalli 3rd Stage, received a message with a link asking him to update his PAN Card number.

Mahadev, who clicked on the website link, uploaded the details and even entered the One Time Password (OTP) received on his phone. Within minutes Rs. 2,24,999 was withdrawn from his bank account.

City’s Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police, who have registered cases pertaining to both the incidents, are investigating.
