Online fraud: Two cheated of over Rs. 2 lakh in city

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, online fraudsters have cheated two persons of over Rs. 2 lakh in city.

In the first case, 64-year-old C. Neelakanta, a resident of Saraswathipuram, has been cheated on the pretext of getting him a Jan Aushad Kendra.

The fraudster, who called Neelakanta from mobile number 76995-22896, told Neelakanta to fill up the form and deposit Rs. 11,400 to open a Jan Aushad Kendra. The fraudster, who obtained the photo of the D Pharma certificate and Bank passbook through WhatsApp, also got an agreement copy and got Rs. 1,61,300 transferred from Neelakanta, thus cheating him.

In the second case, a 74-year-old woman has been cheated of Rs. 39,173 by fraudsters.

The elderly woman, who has been cheated is B. Jayanthi Pai, a resident of Kuvempunagar in city.

Jayanthi, who was searching for the Helpline number of a courier agency on Google, found mobile number 73057-70577 and called the number.

The person, who received the call, told her to transfer Rs. 5 through Quick Support App if she wanted the information about the courier service. The elderly woman, who downloaded the app, updated her debit card number and also the Card Verification Value (CVV) number. As soon as she updated the numbers, a total of Rs. 39,173 was illegally transferred from her Bank account.

Both the cases have been registered at city’s CEN Police Station.
