Online fraud: Women among three lose Rs. 3.53 lakh to fraudsters

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, two women and a teacher from city, have lost a total of Rs. 3,53,497 to online fraudsters.

In the first case, 36-year-old C. Meghana, a resident of T.K. Layout, received a call on her mobile phone where the caller, in the name of her friend informed her of sending a gift. Later, Meghana received calls from mobile phone numbers 98108-96926 and 89298-84551 and the callers, who identified themselves as Airport Custom officers from Delhi, got Rs. 3.10 lakh transferred from her Punjab National Bank account, thus cheating her.

In the second case, 32-year-old G. Basavanna, a teacher and a resident of Gayathripuram, who saw an advertisement in a website, which stated that they would ferry passengers at an affordable price to Vaishnodevi Temple in a helicopter, contacted the company named Himalayan Helipad and transferred Rs. 17,300 only to be cheated.

In the third case, 37-year-old Indira, a resident of Vidyanagar, received a call and the caller who told her that he would be activating her SBI Yono App, collected the One Time Password (OTP) sent to her phone.

Within minutes, a total of Rs. 26,197 was deducted from her bank account.

City’s CEN Police Station, who have registered separate cases, are investigating.
