Online fraudsters cheat elderly woman of Rs. 2 lakh

Mysore/Mysuru: An elderly woman has been cheated of over Rs. 2 lakh by miscreants in the guise of getting the Know Your Customer (KYC) form updated.

The woman, who was cheated is 76-year-old Geetha G. Krishna, wife of late T.H. Gopalakrishna and a resident of Chamarajapuram. On Jan. 16 at about 7 pm, Geetha received a message on her phone asking her to update her KYC form.

Geetha, while updating her KYC, received a One Time Password (OTP) to her phone and she called the number from which she had received the message and revealed the OTP to the receiver. Within seconds, a total of Rs. 2,01,289 was withdrawn from her Bank account.

A case has been registered at city’s CEN Police Station.
