Online workshop on ‘Career Opportunities and Guidance’

Mysore/Mysuru: The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, conducted a three-day online workshop on ‘Career Opportunities and Guidance’ post COVID-19. The Department of Civil Engineering organised the workshop, sponsored by the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III).

The workshop aimed at providing deep insight about MNCs, PSUs and higher institutes to students who were sensitised on various career opportunities available in the field of Civil Engineering. 

More than 130 students attended the online workshop inaugurated by the Dean Academics Dr. M. S. Ganeshprasad.  

On Day-1, Dr. H.S. Prasanna, Professor and TPAC Chairman, NIE, explained the types of internship and taught students how an internship opportunity has to be searched in online and offline platform. 

H. V. Nagesh, Founder Director, CSSE, Mysuru, discussed career guidelines for Civil Engineers and shared his experience in construction industry. 

On Day-2, Anand. M. Hulagabali, Assistant Professor, NIE, discussed the post-graduation opportunities in India and abroad. Also he discussed the various Government sector job avenues.

Aswath Bhargava, Saadhana Engineering and Business Consulting Services, Bengaluru, explained the gap between academia and industry. He presented various soft skills which students can update during internship and placement training. 

On Day-3, Dr. C.H. Solanki, Professor, NIT, Surat, Gujarat, presented the various opportunities in Civil Engineering, to make a right choice post completion of the degree. He also taught how to create jobs according to societal requirements. 

Harish Machia, Principal Associate-Idental Management Consultancy, Mysuru, motivated students in building body language and to develop strong communication skills through reading, writing and interaction on social platforms.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr. H. S. Prasanna, Prof. Anand M. Hulagabali, Assistant Professor and R. Vedaprada, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering Department. N. Roopa, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering Department, was the Organising Secretary, according to a press release from Dr. Rohini Nagapadma, Principal.
