Tenders floated, estimated cost Rs. 3.5 crore

Mysore/Mysuru: Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) will set up an in-house Data Centre for the storage of all documents collected from the candidates under one roof, said Prof. S. Vidyashankar, Vice-Chancellor of the Open Varsity.

Talking to Star of Mysore, he said thousands of candidates seeking admission to distance education courses in degree, under graduate and post graduate and diploma certificate from all districts would submit documents like marks cards to the Varsity at the time of admission.

The responsibility would be on the Varsity to safeguard these documents. In the wake of this, the University has decided to build an in-house Data Centre within the premises of Mukthagangothri, he said and added that tenders have been called from eligible companies. The estimated cost of the proposed Data Centre was Rs. 3.5 crore, he said.

The VC said previously, the Varsity had given contract to private parties for storage of documents submitted by the candidates but there were reports of misuse of documents. As it was important to protect the prestige of the Varsity, it had been decided to go for the construction of Data Centre and safeguard the documents. “Conduct of exams, evaluation of answer scripts, announcement of results and collection of marks cards must be held in transparent way without mistakes. The proposed Centre would be of much help in conducting activities online and audio-video virtual experiments. Documents collected by all regional centres would also be stored here. In case of doubt regarding marks cards, result or academic activity, the same could be verified with digitalised documents stored in Data Centre. It will help to protect the prestige of KSOU, he opined.
