Mysuru: In a bid to strengthen traffic facilities and to make motorists to compulsorily follow traffic rules the Law and Order Police, Traffic Police officials and staff have launched ‘Operation Cheetah,’ a special traffic checking drive in city yesterday.
ACP (Traffic) K.N. Madaiah, speaking to SOM this morning, said that as traffic violations have increased in city, the Traffic Police, with the help of Civil Police, are conducting surprise checking in city since yesterday. He said that the Special Drives would continue on any day and any time and added that the drives may be conducted daily, weekly or fortnightly and added that there is no specification on when and where it would be conducted.
During the first day of the Special Traffic drive yesterday, Traffic Police, along with Civil Police and Home Guards, were seen conducting surprise checking at almost all major points in city catching motorists found violating traffic rules. The Special Traffic Drive, which began from 4 pm, concluded at about 7 pm during which the Police booked 4,418 cases besides collecting Rs. 4,92,700 as fines from the offenders.
During the Special Drive in N.R. Traffic Police limits, the Cops caught a rider riding a Hero Honda Splendor Plus bike and on checking the Blackberry device, the Police came to know that the rider had committed 108 traffic violations and had failed to pay the fines. The Police collected a total fine of Rs. 10,800 from the biker.
As the drives would be conducted on any day any time, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao has urged motorists to carry their Driving License (DL) and other relevant documents while driving or riding and co-operate with the Police during the drives.
