‘Opportunities await young Indian scientists, researchers’

Mysore/Mysuru: The three-day 12th IEEE International Conference on ‘Cloud Computing in Emerging Markets’ (CCEM) was organised at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus, in collaboration with IEEE from  Nov. 2 to 4.

In his inaugural address, Chairman and Managing Director of Catamaran Ventures M.D. Ranganath expressed optimism about the rapidly growing technology of cloud computing, anticipating abundant opportunities for the nation’s young scientists and researchers.

He emphasised that the conducive environment for these opportunities would expand, contributing to the pace of urbanisation in India.

Ranganath shared insights into the challenges within the field of cloud computing and the corresponding research opportunities. He highlighted the pressing need for enhanced information protection, as more than 50% of companies now store their work in the cloud.

Ranganath identified “misconfiguration” as the predominant security challenge faced by most companies today, underscoring the urgency for research on cloud performance and migration.

Dr. T. S. Mohan from Pragnyan Data Labs lauded India’s emergence as an innovator.

He stressed the importance of nurturing the young minds of today, asserting that IEEE Symposium provides an excellent platform for students and researchers to receive guidance from field experts.

Dr. Mohan addressed the quality of contemporary research papers, noting a marginal difference and emphasising the need for proper evidence and witnesses to support proposed research topics.

He exuded confidence that the seminar offers valuable advice from both industry and academic experts.

Associate Dean of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus, Prof. Shekhar Babu, provided insights into the seminar’s features.

Prof. Babu underscored the institution’s commitment to prioritising research and student projects. The seminar boasted of the participation of national and international subject matter experts from professional and academic fields, who shared their knowledge about the conference’s key features.

Correspondent of Amrita Mysuru Brahmachari Muktidamrata Chaitanya, Principal Prof. G. Ravindranath and speakers from various disciplines, as well as researchers and students were present on the occasion.

Valedictory

The valedictory of  the conference was held on Nov. 4. As part of the conference, an array of keynote sessions, panel discussions and tutorials were presented by the following experts: Senthil Nathan Velu, CTO, New Street Technologies; Prof. Ram Ramesh, SUNY at Buffalo, New York, USA; Pragya Sharma,     Hybrid Data & AI, Accenture India; Dr. Sheela Siddappa, Director, Data Science, Kyndryl; Ravi Trivedi, Managing Director, Digital Agriculture, The Nudge Institute; Prof. H. Raghav Rao, AT&T Distinguished Chair in Infrastructure Assurance and Security, University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA); Rushi Mehta, Cyber Security Professional, Senior Consultant, Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India; and Venkatesh Narayanan, Principal Engineer, Microsoft.

A total of 50 high-quality research papers out of a total of 162 submitted were presented during the conference.

The agenda of the conference was designed to encompass invited talks, peer-reviewed paper presentations, tutorials, a “TechnoBiz” and a students’ project showcase.

The conference featured a panel discussion titled “Where is AI headed? Careers in the new AI World!” with Dr. T. S. Mohan of Pragyan Datalabs as the panel moderator and panellists including Dr. Sanjay Chitnis, Dr. Ram Ramesh, Dr. Raghav Rao, Dr. Shekhar Babu and Ravi Trivedi.

A tutorial on AI and IoT was also conducted as part of the conference.

Around 200 delegates representing a diverse global audience attended the conference.

Awards were presented for the Best Research Paper, Best TechnoBiz Plan and Best Student Projects.
