Mysuru: Ninaada Griha Sangeeth, the home concert series being presented at Kergalli, Mysuru, will host its 18th concert on Aug. 16 at 6 pm. The concert will be held at #37, ‘Ninaada’, Rishabh Siddhi Layout, Kergalli, Mysuru.

The evening will feature a Hindustani classical vocal recital by Pt. M.P. Hegde, Padigeri, a senior exponent of the Gwalior Gharana. He will be accompanied by Pt. Bhimashankar Bidanur on tabla and Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath on harmonium.

Pt. M.P. Hegde: Hailing from Padigeri near Sirsi, Pt. Hegde was born into a culturally rich family and developed an early interest in music under the influence of his father. He subsequently underwent several decades of rigorous training under the distinguished musician Pt. R.T. Hegde, Shigehalli, one of the senior musicians of the region.

In 1979, Pt. Hegde secured the first rank in the State in the Vidwat examination conducted by the Government of Karnataka. In 1980, he successfully completed the Sangeet Alankar examination conducted by Gandharva Maha Mandal, securing a high grade. He has also been an artiste of All India Radio.

At a stage when he was developing into a mature vocalist, he came in contact with the eminent Dharwad-based musician and guru Pt. Chandrashekhara Puranikmath. That proved to be a significant turning point, taking his music to a higher level and adding a new dimension and  refinement to his singing.

A devotee of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, he established the Sri Sai Sangeetha Vidyalaya in 1981, through which he has been teaching and nurturing aspiring musicians for the past 45 years.

Pt. Bhimashankar Bidanur is a respected tabla artiste from Mysuru. He received his musical education at the Veereshwara Punyashrama, Gadag and has accompanied several renowned artistes from across the region.

Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath is a senior musician, vocalist, harmonium artiste and teacher from Mysuru. He received his training under the guidance of the revered Pt. Puttaraja Gawai and has been imparting musical education to students in Mysuru.

The concert will be presented with the support of the students of Ninaada Sangeetha Shaale, Kergalli.
