Pandemonium breaks loose at Zilla Panchayat meeting

Mysuru: Pandemonium broke loose at Zilla Panchayat (ZP) meeting held at the ZP auditorium here this morning over difference of opinion among Members on the relevance and importance of subject to be discussed at the meeting. The meeting commenced at 11.30 am.

ZP Member Srikrishna tabled the topic of funding for roads in rural areas while another Member Venkataswamy wanted discussion on dengue and former ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath wanted discussion on imposition of GST on sanitary napkins.

When each of the three members voiced the importance of their topic, arguments began to heat up with Member Beerihundi Basavanna insisting on abiding by the agenda of the meeting and alleged that Dr. Pushpa Amarnath was only interested in media publicity.

Taking the remark seriously, Dr. Pushpa Amarnath walked out of the meeting along with women and   Congress Members.

ZP President Nayeema Sulthana tried in vain to pacify Dr. Pushpa Amarnath and bring her back, but the latter was insisting on an open apology from Basavanna.

However, with repeated efforts by the ZP President managed to defused the situation and the meeting had resumed when we want into the Press.
