Parliament Chalo protest tomorrow

January 27, 2019

Mysuru: Over 500 activists from the districts of Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Tumakuru and other adjoining districts under the banner of  All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) will stage the Parliament Chalo protest on Jan. 28 at New Delhi.

Speaking to media persons at Patrakarthara Bhavan in city recently, AIUTUC State Committee  Member T. Muralidhar said that hundreds Asha, Anganwadi and mid-day meal employees will leave from these districts and reach New Delhi to put pressure on the Union Government to fulfil their various demands.

He alleged that the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to regularise the jobs of millions of AIUTUC activists who were working for meagre wages and had promised to ensure minimum wages, but the PM failed to keep up his promise and create jobs.

“We had staged protests several times to press for the fulfilment of our demands, but they were of no use. Now we are expecting an announcement in the next budget and hence decided to hold a Parliament Chalo protest,” he said.

He added that the AIUTUC had demanded the Centre to ensure labour status for Anganwadi, Asha and Mid Day meals workers instead of continuing their services as social workers.

Muralidhar wanted the minimum salary to  be increased to Rs 21,000 per month and be given PF, ESI, gratuity and DA. Retired workers should be given a pension of Rs 6,000, he said.

District AIUTUC Co-ordinator Chandrashekhar said over two lakh AIUTUC activists from across the country will be taking part in the protest.
