June 26, 2026

Industrial Security Force, Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Services & Hospitals participate in DGCA-mandated exercise

Mysuru: Mysore Airport conducted a ‘Partial Emergency Mock Exercise’ to assess and strengthen its emergency response capabilities.

The drill was conducted in accordance with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR Section 10, Series C, Part I).

The exercise, held on Tuesday, was aimed at addressing shortcomings identified during an earlier ‘Full-Scale Emergency Exercise’ while providing hands-on training to various stakeholders and emergency response agencies associated with Airport operations.

The mock drill simulated a crisis and evaluated the preparedness of participating agencies, inter-agency coordination, operational readiness and the effectiveness of established emergency response procedures.

Coordinated efforts

Many organisations took part in the exercise, including JSS Hospital, Orient Flying School, IndiGo Airlines, Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services, Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) functioning under the office of the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner.

The exercise was conducted under the supervision of Airport Director P.V. Ushakumari. Fire Department Head Vijayan, Safety Manager Damu and Safety Investigation Coordinator Raman Sharma played key roles in planning and executing the drill.

The Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) and Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFF) demonstrated coordinated emergency response measures during the exercise, showcasing their ability to respond effectively to crises within the Airport premises.

Following the mock drill, officials conducted a structured debriefing session to review the performance of participating agencies, identify operational gaps and recommend corrective measures.

Improving preparedness

Airport authorities said the review process would help further improve emergency preparedness and ensure passenger safety.

Speaking on the occasion, Airport Director Ushakumari said the successful conduct of the exercise reaffirmed Mysore Airport’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety, emergency preparedness and inter-agency coordination in line with DGCA guidelines.

Ushakumari added that such exercises would continue to be conducted periodically as mandated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to strengthen crisis management capabilities and enhance confidence among passengers, stakeholders and emergency response agencies.
