Truck carrying bagasse gutted in fire

Mysuru: More than 10 passengers travelling in a private bus were injured when a lorry reportedly rammed into the bus near Varakod Gate yesterday.

The lorry, carrying fertilizer bags and allegedly driven by the driver under the influence of alcohol, was proceeding towards T. Narasipur and the private was proceeding from T. Narasipur side. When the vehicles came near Varakod Gate, the lorry driver, who reportedly lost control of the vehicle, rammed the truck head-on into the private bus resulting in six passengers suffering serious injuries and 12 suffering minor injuries. The injured were rushed to various hospitals in city.

The impact was such that the front portion of the bus was badly damaged and fertilizer bags strew on the road. This resulted in traffic on the road coming to a halt.

Megalapura Police, who rushed to the spot, cleared the road and made way for smooth flow of traffic. The Police later seized both the vehicles and have registered a case.

Truck gutted in fire

In a freak accident, a truck carrying bagasse (dry pulp that remains after juice is extracted from sugarcane), was partially gutted in a fire near Rayanakere on H.D. Kote Road on Friday.

The truck (KA-06 A-5949) carrying bagasse was proceeding from city towards H.D. Kote and when the truck reached near Rayanakere, the driver and the cleaner noticed that the bagasse had caught fire.

The driver then stopped the truck on the roadside and both of them leapt from the truck. Soon, the fire spread and the bagasse was completely gutted and the fire partially damaged the truck.

Mysuru South Rural Police Sub-Inspector Jayaprakash and staff, who rushed to the spot, summoned Fire and Emergency Service personnel, who extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading further.

Mysuru South Rural Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.

Overturned tipper stops traffic on Mysuru-B’luru Highway

A jelly stone-laded tipper, which overturned on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway yesterday, brought the traffic on the busy road to a standstill for more than an hour after the jelly stones from the tipper was strewn on the Highway.

The tipper was proceeding towards Mysuru, when it reportedly climbed the median and overturned resulting in traffic jam on the busy Highway for more than an hour and vehicles stranded on the Highway for more than two kilometres.

Soon, the Police who rushed to the spot summoned a crane and got the tipper removed from the Highway and made way for the traffic.
