Sir,
The news on chaotic traffic on Sayyaji Rao road clearly highlighted the carelessness of the motorists (SOM dated July 4). However, it ignored the pedestrians’ misdeeds on this stretch of the road.
Many a time these pedestrians are responsible to open the barricades everywhere on this road. They fail to reach the designated pedestrian crossings provided at K.R. Hospital Gate, opposite to vegetable market entrance, K.R. Circle and the subway near Bata showroom. Instead, they are opening the barricades to make way for themselves wherever they want to cross the road.
Some pedestrians are finding gaps within these barricades and sneaking through it by bending and sitting, thus risking their lives. Motorists are finding these gaps to cross the road causing a lot of inconvenience to other road-users.
Even four-wheeler drivers are taking U-turn at Cauvery Emporium instead of going ahead a few meters to take a turn at Ayurveda College Circle. It is not clear how much fuel or time these motorists want to save. As suggested by me earlier, providing heavy concrete dividers from K.R. Circle to Ayurveda College Circle, which can be moved aside during Dasara period, is the only solution to this problem. Hope, the MCC and Traffic Police will take steps in this direction.
