New Delhi: The sixth and penultimate phase of Lok Sabha (LS) elections 2019 that began this morning is witnessing voting in 59 seats across seven States, among them being the national capital New Delhi where fates of candidates in all the seven seats will be sealed in the EVMs. Till 1 pm, an overall voter turnout stood at 29.44 percent.

The biggest test would be for the BJP which had won 45 of these seats in the 2014 elections. Voting is being held in 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Haryana, seven in Delhi, four in Jharkhand and eight each in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.

Over 10.17 crore people are eligible to cast their votes and the Election Commission has set up over 1.13 lakh polling stations, and voting — which began at 7 am — will be on till 6 pm.  

Among those in the ring are Maneka Gandhi, Varun Gandhi, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Dilip Ghosh, Meenakshi Lekhi and Sadhvi Pragya (all BJP), Digvijaya Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sheila Dikshit, Ajay Maken, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kirti Azad (all Congress), Akhilesh Yadav (Samajwadi Party) and Manas Bhunia (Trinamool Congress). The results will be out on May 23 and the last phase of voting will be held on May 19.
