Bengaluru: In yet another move aimed at promoting girl child education, the Department of School Education and Literacy has permanently exempted the annual fees for girl students enrolled in Government PU Colleges across the State, starting from this academic year (2022-23).
The Government had announced the fee exemption for girls, from Nursery to Post-Graduation, with effect from the academic year 2018-19, but a fresh order had to be issued each year to continue it.
The Department of School Education and Literacy (earlier called as Department of Pre-University Education) was providing a sum of Rs. 456 for every girl student each year.
This amount was being paid to the respective PU College Principal’s account, which in turn, was credited as fee.
But as per the present order, the fee exemption will be a permanent one and there will be no need for a recurring order for PU girl students again.
However, the old system of providing fee will continue for girls studying degree and other courses.
