Permanent medians turning detrimental

February 13, 2026

Sir,

Apropos the letter titled ‘No need of permanent divider on a narrow road’ in Star of Mysore dated Jan.30, I would like to express my vehement support to the concerned citizens of Rajarajeshwarinagar.

In fact, I had written a similar letter in Star of Mysore dated 21.8.2024, titled “80-Feet Roads: Preserve Them” asking Planning Authorities of Mysuru City not to disturb the 80-feet roads by erecting permanent medians, which reduces 80-ft roads into 20-ft lanes on both sides of medians.

I had given the examples of Marimallappa’s Main Road in Vijayanagar 4th Stage and Sahukar Chennaiah Road, which have turned into congested roads because of the permanent medians on these roads.

Mysuru City is famous as a planned city because of the wide roads it has. But unfortunately, the Planning Authorities of Mysuru gave permission for permanent medians on some of the 80-ft roads, resulting in chaotic, narrow roads with parking issues and NO-U-TURN possibilities, etc.

When MUDA (now MDA) planned 80-ft roads at the time of new layout formation, they needed to remain permanently as 80-ft roads only.

How can they make permanent medians which drastically reduce the width of the 80-ft roads and turn the city into a city of narrow roads?

Suggestion: The authorities can use white and yellow colour paints to mark the lanes every 10 feet on the 80 feet roads. Our people follow rules when the  authorities mark roads with proper lane markings.

I request MDA and MCC Commissioners to immediately stop erecting permanent medians on 80-ft roads anywhere                            in Mysuru.
