PG Sports Council clinches MI7s Hockey Cup: Cauvery College, Virajpet emerge runners-up

Mysore Institute of Commerce and Arts  (MICA) hosted its first ever MI7s Hockey tournament at the University Hockey Grounds from Apr.6 to 8.

Seventeen teams from Mysuru, Kodagu and Hubballi participated in the three-day tournament which was inaugurated by Dr. P. Krishnaiah, In-charge Director, UoM PE Department and Dr. Pulikeshi Y. Shetteppanavar, Deputy Director, along with the Management, Principal and staff of MICA.

In the fiercely played tournament teams like Cauvery College Virajpet, NIE IT Mysuru, Murnad First Grade College, NIE Mysuru, Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering Mysuru, MIT Mysuru, ATME Mysuru, Vidya Vikas Institute of Engineering and Technology, PG Sports Council and Dr. Ambedkar College Hubballi participated.

In the finals played between PG Sports Council, Mysuru and Cauvery College, Virajpet, PG Sports Council won the match by 5 – 3 goals. Murnad First Grade College emerged as 2nd runner up.

The winning team and two runner up teams were awarded cash prize of Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively.  They were also awarded with trophies, medals and certificates.

N.A.  Kariappa of JSS Law College was adjudged the Best Goal-keeper while Shogan Aiyappa of PGSC was awarded the Best Defender trophy, Bopanna of Cauvery College emerged as the Best Forward and Arun of PGSC was the highest goal scorer of the tournament.

The prizes were distributed by Dr. P. Krishnaiah, MICA Principal M.N. Ponnamma and Sukumar, Chairman, Selection Committee of Handball.
