Pharma experts call for innovative approach

Lifetime Achievement Award conferred on Dr. Y.K. Gupta, Dr. R.K. Goyal & Dr. B.K. Roy

Mysore/Mysuru: A three-day 52nd annual International Pharmacological Society Conference (IPSCON)-2023 was organised by JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, JSS Academic of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) and Mysuru Local Chapter of Indian Pharmacological Society at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS College of Pharmacy, Bannimantap, in city from Feb. 23 to 25.

The Conference titled ‘Future Challenges of Pharmacology for Health and Well-being’ was inaugurated on Thursday by the Chairman of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu & Bhopal, Dr. Y.K. Gupta, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, New Delhi, Dr. R.K. Goyal and former Dean of Ranchi Veterinary College Dr. B.K. Roy.

Dr. Gupta, Dr. Goyal and Dr. Roy were conferred Lifetime Achievement Award during the inaugural ceremony of the Conference. Ten teachers were given ‘Best Teacher’ award on the occasion.

Dr. Gupta said, “The Conference brings together experts in drugs and pharmacy. The coordination between different wings of health system holds significance. Hence we have to find solutions with innovative concepts, to various issues in health sector, through pharmacology.”

“The pharmacology scientists should formulate new treatment methods using new drugs. The education in pharmacy science must fulfil the requirements of public health, as it plays a key role in producing capable and professional druggists. The druggists have the key responsibility of guaranteeing the effects and responsible usage of drugs. They should support responsible utilisation of medicines, besides issuing restrictions for the patients to follow the guidelines on using drugs and also supervise the use of drugs,” added Dr. Gupta.

Former Dean of Ranchi Veterinary College Dr. Roy, who spoke, said: “The Ayurveda, doctors and pharmacists must work together for building a better society. We still have to research medicines for several diseases.”

Pointing at the youngsters attending the Conference in large numbers, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, New Delhi, Dr. Goyal said: “The youths will be dreaming to achieve big. Hence, we have to be ready to adapt to the changes in the world, in research and development (R&D) activities, as pharmacology is a key wing in                                            health system.”

One thousand delegates from various parts of the country and abroad attended the Conference, along with about 500 young scientists.

JSS AHER Registrar Dr. B. Manjunatha, Indian Pharmacological Society Chairman Dr. Shivprakash Rathnam, General Secretary Dr. B. Kalakumar, JSS College of Pharmacy Principal Dr. T.M. Pramod Kumar, IPSCON-2023 Organising Secretary Dr. K.L. Krishna and others were present.
