What a shocking picture of ‘Tiger’ parked right below the ‘No Parking’ board! (SOM dated Dec.10). It also proves the proverb that there is darkness below the candle light!

Coincidentally, the very same topic was discussed at the MGP monthly meeting on Dec.9. The guest, Traffic Police Inspector C.V. Ravi (replacing the earlier announced guest Dr. Vikram Amathe, DCP-Crime and Traffic) evaded a direct question about the operation of ‘Tigers’ without any control and responsibilities. He simply said that the same operation exists all over the country. No scope for improvement?

Some members even cited the issue having been presented to the earlier City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, who had agreed in principle to put into operation a system of involving shop owners at the spot of ‘No Parking’ sign to inform vehicle users about their vehicle being lifted to the nearby or faraway Police Station. The feeling in such a situation is terrible. It generates anxiety and blood pressure as one does not know if the vehicle is stolen. How should one guess?

This situation was explained to the then Commissioner, suggesting to install an info box at each and every ‘No Parking’ sign post and paint the phone number to be contacted in case the vehicle is found missing.

A lot has been written about the lopsided ‘No Parking’ and towing policy implementation in these columns but nothing seems to stir the Traffic Police Department. I hope the picture in SOM makes a difference to the situation. Is DCP Dr. Vikram Amathe seeing the picture? Will he please intervene at least now?
