Pile-up on Mysuru-Hunsur Road because of a water bottle!

October 9, 2026

Mysuru: A water bottle stuck under the brake pedal caused a serial accident involving four cars on the Mysuru-Hunsur Highway this morning, damaging all the vehicles and bringing traffic to a halt during peak hours.

The accident occurred at 10.30 am between B.M. Hospital signal and the St. Joseph’s School signal near Temple Road. The incident is a reminder of how even a small object rolling under the brake pedal can lead to accidents. According to eyewitnesses and the Police, a silver Maruti Suzuki Baleno (KA-09-MM-0730) was coming down the slope from the Hunsur side towards St. Joseph’s School signal when the traffic light turned red.

As the driver attempted to apply the brakes, a water bottle on the vehicle’s floor slipped under the brake pedal, preventing him from pressing it fully. Unable to stop, the Baleno rammed into a red Hyundai i20 (KA-01-MU-2289) ahead.

The impact pushed the Hyundai into a Tata Nexon electric vehicle (KL-08-CB-4672), which in turn hit a Volkswagen in front of it. The Baleno’s airbags deployed on impact.

No injuries were reported among the drivers or passengers in the four vehicles.

After the accident, the Baleno driver told onlookers and Police personnel that he had an urgent Court matter to attend to.

He handed over his car keys to the authorities and left, saying he would return after the Court appearance.

Personnel from V.V. Puram Traffic Police Station arrived at the scene to regulate traffic. Tow trucks were brought in to move the damaged vehicles to the Police Station, while the Volkswagen, which sustained minor damage, was driven there.

The V.V. Puram Traffic Police are investigating the incident.
