Pink Raksha team launched

March 8, 2018

Mysuru:  ‘Pink Raksha,’ a team to rescue women and children in distress was launched in city this morning as part of the International Women’s Day. The team was launched at an event organised by the District Administration at the Town Hall.

The ‘Pink Raksha’ is an initiative of District Women and Child Welfare Department and the District Administration and is modelled on the lines of “Gulab Gang” that comes to the rescue of women in distress. They work towards justice for oppressed and abused women.

Speaking to Star of Mysore about Pink Raksha, K. Radha, Deputy Director, Women and Child Welfare Department and Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, former ZP President said that volunteers from Pink Raksha will assist women and children who are oppressed and exploited.

“It is very sad that even children and elderly are not spared by rapists. Domestic violence has become the order of the day where educated people beat up their wives in the name of domination. We will come to the rescue of such women. Apart from rescuing them, we will provide legal assistance for them to come out of the abusive relationship and also bring the perpetrators to justice,” Dr. Pushpa said.

“Each village will have one such team and whoever is interested to safeguard women and protect their interests (including men) can be Raksha volunteers. Many women who face violence do not come forward to lodge complaints. We will assist such victims and boost their confidence and self esteem,” she said.

“Vulnerable groups like the women and children will be helped to regain their social stature and we will help them to fight for their rights. The concept of Gulab Gang is extremely popular in North India. We want to replicate the experiment here and stand up for women and children who face sexual, dowry-based violence and also domestic violence,” Dr. Pushpa Amarnath added.
