Pitilu T. Chowdiah Memorial Violin Duet Concert tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha has organised a special programme, Pitilu Chowdiah Samsmarana Day Endowment, instituted by Pitilu Chowdiah Samsmarana Vedike (Mayura and Vid. Chandan Kumar), at the Sabha premises on JLB Road in city tomorrow at 6 pm.

On this occasion, ‘Dhanurvainika Brahma’ title will be conferred on Vid. Vittal Ramamurthy in memory of Pitilu Chowdiah. The award will be presented by Sri Datta Vijayananda Theertha Swamiji of Avadhoota Datta Peetham, Mysuru.  It will be followed by a Violin Duet by Vid. Vittal Ramamurthy and Vidu. Padma Shankar. They will be accompanied by Vid. V.V. Ramana Murthy on mridanga and Vid. Tripunitura Radhakrishnan on ghata.  Vid. Vittal Ramamurthy is a leading and popular violinist of the Karnatak stage today. After initial training with Hosahalli Venkatram and T. Rukmini, he went on to learn from the legend and violin maestro, Lalgudi G. Jayaraman and blossomed into a versatile musician under his able tutelage. Vittal Ramamurthy is an ‘A Top’ grade artiste of AIR and has been extensively featured on national radio and television. He has accompanied and performed solo in over 6,000 concerts in 25 countries around the world. In his quest to spread the tradition of Karnatak music, Vittal Ramamurthy has students in India, USA, Canada, Australia and France. As a musicologist, he has delivered demonstration lectures and workshops at Rice University (Houston), Concordia University (Montreal) and Harvard University (Boston). He has won many accolades for his  contributions.

Vidu. Padma Shankar started her training in music at a tender age from her vainika mother, Lakshmi Narayanan. Padma’s initial training in violin was from (late) Ramakrishna Sarma of Mumbai. Later under the legend Lalgudi Jayaraman. An A Grade artiste of AIR, she is also a global performer and achiever.
