Eight women without theatre background to perform
Mysuru: The staging of play ‘Uriya Uyyale,’ created by Dr. H.S. Venkatesh Murthy, has been organised by Rangayaana Trust on Sept.19 at 7 pm at the Mini Theatre in Kalamandira premises here.
Disclosing this at a press meet here on Monday, Trust President Vikas Chandra said that the play would feature enacting the role of Draupadi of Mahabharata by eight different women separately who come from different backgrounds. He further said that senior Rangayana artiste B.N. Shashikala has directed the play.
Briefing on the play, Shashikala said that eight women, comprising lecturers, doctors and home-makers, have been exclusively trained to fit into the shoes of the character of the play and contended that this will be a unique experiment and venture in amateur theatre. She pointed out that the experiment would prove that home-makers and professionals too can excel in art and culture. She disclosed that this would be the maiden experience for all the women in the play and it was a challenge to groom them for the last 30 days. She added that it is proposed to stage more shows in future.
Dr. Kathyayini, one of the eight artistes, said that it was a challenge for all of them and added that they had got the encouragement and co-operation of their family members which was essential. She further said that the team was very enthusiastic to present more shows.
